BOOKING WELL

Expedia or Trip.com? Compare the same stay

Finding the same hotel on Expedia and Trip.com is only the first step. A meaningful comparison uses the same stay: dates, guests, room, meals and cancellation conditions. Otherwise the cheaper number may be a different product.

Confirm the property before comparing the offer

Hotel groups can have several branches in the same city. Start with the full name and street address.

For example, Grande Centre Point Terminal 21 is a different property from Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55. The eight hotels in this issue have been matched across both platforms; still check the landing page before entering travel details.

Use one set of guests and dates

Enter everyone, including children and their ages, with identical arrival and departure dates.

A two-adult result is not proof that the room accepts another guest. Make the comparison in the same display currency where possible, then read the amount actually charged and any amount due at the property.

Match the room, not just a familiar word

Deluxe, Superior and Family are not universal room standards. Check bed sizes, number of beds, room area, window or view, and occupancy.

At Big M, the window wording deserves attention. At Riva Arun, the room outlook changes the purchase. If the category descriptions cannot be reconciled, ask the hotel before treating the rates as equivalent.

Meals and extras can reverse the headline price

Record whether breakfast is included for every guest. Compare taxes, mandatory charges and any items payable locally.

Pool or gym access may be a general hotel facility, while lounge access can belong to a particular package. An airport transfer, extra bed or child meal is included only when the offer says so.

Read the cancellation clock

Write down the deadline, its stated time zone, any penalty, and when payment is taken.

A flexible offer and a non-refundable offer are different decisions even when the room matches. Do not rely on a green label alone: open the full conditions and retain a copy with the reservation.

Keep each platform’s score separate

A rating belongs to the platform and the review sample behind it.

The figures shown here are dated snapshots, not a combined Travellogers score. A smaller difference is less useful than knowing how many reviews support it and whether recent comments discuss the room or issue you care about.

Finish with a complete comparison

Create two columns: final cost, exact room, meals, cancellation, payment and local charges. Choose the offer whose complete conditions fit the trip.

Neither platform is automatically cheaper or better for every stay. The buttons on each hotel review take you to the matched property, where current availability and the final booking terms are displayed.
