Riva Arun Bangkok review

Riva Arun Bangkok is a small riverside hotel for a different kind of city trip: one built around the old town, temples and the Chao Phraya. The official site describes 25 rooms and a rooftop dining setting. Its appeal is the relationship with this part of Bangkok, rather than the scale of a large resort.

A base for the old city

The hotel is on Maharaj Road, near the historic sights described by its official site, including Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. Wat Arun is across the river.

Organise an old-town day around nearby places instead of repeatedly crossing the city from Sukhumvit. Recheck temple admission arrangements and river services close to the visit.

Rooms: match the full category

The official site lists a 22-square-metre Studio with an old-town outlook, Superior with a partial river or side-street view, and a 25–27-square-metre Deluxe with a river view.

The rooftop outlook does not identify your bedroom view. Match the full room name and bed arrangement on Expedia and Trip.com before comparing the cost.

What to settle before paying

A smaller hotel can be an attractive trade for atmosphere, but it is important to establish the practical details.

Ask about the assigned floor, lift access, room orientation and the evening dining arrangements. If you expect a resort-style pool or substantial children’s facilities, check directly rather than inferring them from a luxury label.

Breakfast: read the selected rate

Do not read a rooftop dining photograph as proof that breakfast is included or served in that setting.

Confirm the meal location, hours and coverage for every guest in the selected rate. For an early old-town outing, ask about the available arrangements before paying for a package you may not use.

Alexandra’s take

I would put Riva Arun on a couples’ or old-town shortlist. My first decision would be the room outlook: pay for a river-facing category only if it matters enough to the trip. For frequent Sukhumvit evenings, I would compare the extra journeys with an Asok base.
